The idea of building a golf course in Belo Horizonte forty years ago was an audacious notion to say the very least. The Morro do Chapéu golf course was a first-of-its-kind novelty that sprang from the minds of the project’s creators. Being a sport without much tradition in Brazil, adding golf to the club’s sporting activities has attracted a surprising number of fans to Morro, mainly people from other countries who were already familiar with the game but had no place to play it here.

Designed in Japan at the request of Usiminas’s then-CEO, Mr. Sugihara, and donated to the community, the Morro do Chapéu golf course is one of the finest in the country. The machines used in its construction were brought over from England, being considered the best and most modern of the time.

Today, with more than 500,000 square meters of grassy area, the 18-hole course has everything it takes to hold state, national, and international tournaments.
